Letter concerning the disclosure of the PESEL identity number of civil servants from the commune council2007-08-21 On 21 August 2007, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights sent a letter to the Minister of Interior and Administration concerning the disclosure of the PESEL identity number of civil servants responsible for receiving applications for new identity cards. In the opinion of individuals complaining to the Foundation, the disclosure of this number to inquirers applying for a new identity card violates their right to privacy and is not necessary to perform the official functions, with which they were entrusted. The Foundation has moved to amend the Decree of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, specifying the specimen for the application form, in which the PESEL number is disclosed. |
