Opinion of the HFHR Legal Assistance for Refugees and Migrants Program on the Green Book regarding the future common European asylum system

The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has received with satisfaction the European Commission's aspirations to raise the common level of protection and equality in the scope of access to such protection throughout the European Union and to ensure greater solidarity between Member States.

We believe that a common asylum system should be established while guaranteeing aliens actual and efficient protection of their rights, which result from fundamental international treaties ensuring human rights protection. Each alien seeking protection in any EU country should be treated according to equally fair and high-quality procedural standards.
